Soccer

Soccer is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each, primarily using their feet to control and propel a spherical ball with the objective of scoring goals by getting the ball into the opposing team’s net. The game is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with a designated goal at each end. Soccer is known for its global popularity and is governed by international regulations set by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association). It is characterized by its continuous play, with the game divided into two halves, typically 45 minutes each, and additional time may be added for stoppages. Players can use any part of their body except their arms and hands to manipulate the ball, although the goalkeeper is permitted to use their hands within a specific area called the penalty box. Soccer is recognized for its emphasis on skill, teamwork, and strategy, and it is celebrated through numerous domestic and international competitions, with the FIFA World Cup being the most prestigious tournament. The sport is known by different names in various countries; for example, it is often referred to as “football” outside of North America.
